Privacy

• No cookies. The site sets none. Your theme preference is kept in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device — the same is true of whether you have dismissed the newsletter prompt.
• No advertising or tracking networks. No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no ad tech of any kind.
• Aggregate visitor counts are collected through Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not fingerprint or identify visitors. It records page views, referrers and rough country. It cannot identify you and there is no profile of you to request or delete.
• Server logs. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps short-lived request logs including IP addresses for security and abuse prevention. That is standard for any website and outside this site's control.
• The live grid figure makes a request from your browser directly to the NESO Carbon Intensity API. That request carries your IP address to NESO, as any request to any website would. Nothing about you is sent with it.

• What is collected: your email address, and nothing else. No name, no organisation, no inferred interests.
• Who holds it: Buttondown, the email provider. Your address is stored on their systems, not on this site — this site is static and has no database.
• What it is used for: sending the monthly update. Nothing else. The list is never sold, rented, shared or used to advertise anything.
• Getting out: every email carries a one-click unsubscribe, which deletes you from the list. You do not need to ask anyone.
• Lawful basis: consent, given when you submit the form, withdrawable at any time.

• Payment details never touch this site. The donate buttons send you to Ko-fi, which handles the transaction. No card number, address or bank detail is ever entered on gridanddegrees.org, and none is ever received.
• What is visible afterwards: the name or handle you chose on Ko-fi, the amount, and any message you wrote. That is all Ko-fi passes on.
• The supporters list is opt-in. Nobody is named without asking first. Ask to be removed and you are removed.
• Ko-fi and its payment processor are separate data controllers with their own privacy policies, which govern what they do with your information.

Mail to [email protected] and [email protected] is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a monitored inbox. Correspondence is kept only as long as the conversation is useful, and is never added to the newsletter list without you asking. Registering interest in the data export means exactly that — it does not subscribe you to anything.

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of any personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its use. In practice the only personal data this site is responsible for is an email address, so in almost every case the answer is "your email address, and here it is" or "deleted". Email [email protected] and expect a reply within a few days rather than the statutory month.
